First night with decked out camper

After working on and off for 10 days, the new camper sleeping platform and storage unit (SPSU) was ready for use. Look on the truck page for more pictures, a time-lapse video, and a link to Colin’s SPSU tour video.

We stayed in Ft Collins and extra day to get everything done, therefore we didn’t leave until Tuesday, August 17 around 11 am. We followed the Poudre River via Colorado 14 until we reached US Hwy 40. A short drive on 40 brought us to Dumont Lake Campground, where we stayed for the night. It was pretty cold, maybe the high 30s at night. We were close to 10,000’ elevation so maybe not a surprise. Still, the sleeping bag I brought along was at its limit, perhaps a bit beyond.

The drive up 14 was spectacular, and I recommend it. US 40 to Steamboat Springs (an everyday-man’s Vale?) is nice too. Eventually, though, things begin to dry out and it looks very much like much of the American west.

I wonder if I can swim across Dumont Lake?
