We left Walla Walla within easy distance of Leavenworth but, since we didn’t have an RV spot there until Friday, we found a Forest Service camping spot at Mineral Spring Campground. It is small, 12 sites, but is nice with one exception. That is: its close proximity to Hwy 97 – a well-used truck route. During the night there was engine breaking and engine acceleration depending on the direction of travel. It was not really bad, but the sound of the nearby creek was often drowned out.
I took Cap for a walk up the slope and away from the highway only to discover an old campsite, Not sure why it was retired, but it would have been an improvement being a couple of hundred yards farther from the highway. The next morning Cathie and I took all the dogs up for a look and discovered that there had been water and electrical hookups. The road coming in did not look suitable for an RV or trailer rig.
