From Red Shale we worked our way along US 212 to Alzada, MT. We then turned south into Wyoming. A relatively short drive brought us into view of Devils Tower.
Like tourist (which we were), we stopped a couple of more times as we got closer.
Once there it was a bit crowded in the parking lot and visitor’s area but everyone was friendly. Do I have to say that the dogs drew attention? I didn’t think so. There were at least half a dozen climbers on the tower when we were there. I assume that certain routes are bolted, otherwise the damage would mount; however, I don’t know this for sure. I used our little Canon with its 10x optical zoom to take the second picture below.
On the way out, just a ¼ mile from the visitor’s center, we turned onto a gravel road that leads to a parking lot/viewing area. It also serves as a trailhead for a 2 mile loop. We chose to have our lunch here since it is lightly used and has a rather grand view of the tower.
